Cars in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement State

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities reported they were notified by a individual who noticed a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then located many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say early analysis suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
