Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Fans can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
