The artist has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to save the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

The star was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his latest record his work was named the top album of the last 12 months.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role small stages played in his initial steps.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support 38 local spots across the UK.

The money helped spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues stemming from floods, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations received funding support in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from concerts in big venues backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

He is among several artists to donate his honor winnings to worthy causes.

In Pulp earned the prize in 1996 for their album the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the band would give their prize money to the non-profit the charity.

That year, artist she split her bounty across a few good causes, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I contributed a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked better apparatus," the artist shared with a publication.

In recent years, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the local youth club that developed their band, alongside other local music groups.

Also winners that year M People gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the condition.

"Winning was quite enough," stated vocalist Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning affected another person's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had rescued a couple of local spots in that region, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in Southampton and the second in Bristol were acquired under the public acquisition program, which is backed by a national body and supporters who buy "shares" in the buildings.
