The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Producer to Boost Struggling Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Comes After Lukewarm Reception

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.

The president expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement mirrors a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the full text from Ismailer's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game testing phase was revealing. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a clearer vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the criticism to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After some time of conversations, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having spent the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to persist observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

The President
